An All New Nutcracker for Alberta Ballet

Nutcracker costume design by Gianluca Falschi for Alberta Ballet

A New Nutcracker for a New Generation

Alberta Ballet is ushering in the holiday season with a fresh new, Nutcracker. The ballet arrives first in Edmonton from Dec. 3–7, then in Calgary from Dec. 12–24. Tickets are on sale now through AlbertaBallet.com.

The beloved ballet has been reimagined in the Art Nouveau era, with new choreography by Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia, sets by Italo Grassi, and handmade Italian costumes by Gianluca Falschi. The Tchaikovsky score will be performed live by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Alberta Ballet’s professional dancers will be joined by a children’s cast.

“The Nutcracker holds a special place in my heart,” says Ventriglia. “It was the first ballet I danced on stage at La Scala in Milan. And the enchanting notes of Tchaikovsky’s legendary score have accompanied my growth as both a man and an artist, and I hope they resonate with you as much as they do with me.”

With such inspiration and attention to detail, this production is sure to be a magical, visual feast for holiday audiences.
